"Goodbye pearl white, hello black pearl"

So, my baby underwent a huge change yesterday, she'll never be the same again. After a lot of thinking and saving, I decided that this would be best for her. After looking at the end result, I think I made the right decision. What do you think?

How to fix what ain't broke...

Alright I'm a lil late with this one...but anyway...
So over the summer I was having trouble with my car. To be specific it was having trouble starting sometimes and worst of all it was turning off while i was driving. So because my family feared for my life so much, they put it in the shop. The shop we took it to was a shop that we've been goin to for years but was recently bought by some new guys after our guy retired. So I dropped my car off to the new guys and I was excited, my car was finally gonna be in safe condition. So the next day, the guys call and tell us they can't find anything wrong with the car(0_o)...but they continued to look. The next day they called and told us it was some kind of modulator or something and they charged up $400 to fix it(damn!) So they fixed it, and I went to go pick it up, as soon as i set foot in the garage, one of the amateurs drops a wrench on my alternator which kills the battery, so they replace the battery and finish fixing the car. The main guy test drives the car and tells us its fine, but it looked like he was having trouble but whatever it's fixed, I take the keys and I'm good. So i drive around the next day thinkin im good and stop to get gas after work(8am) i go to turn the car back on and guess what?
*new problem*
the battery is dead. Never had that problem before, so the guys were making my car worse. So i get a jump, go home, and let my dad know. One of the guys comes and brings a new battery to my house, the car starts right up and I'm good. So...a couple of hours later i come back to my car and crank it up to leave...but guess what
*old problem*
the car won't start, I sat there for about an hour trying to get it started, it finally did and i went to do what i had to do. So, afterward i take the car back to the shop, tell them what happen and I leave. The next day I come back, well guess what, they put in a new ignition switch. That solves the problem with the key getting stuck in the ignition but what about the starting and turning off problems? I assumed it was ok, because it started up fine, it was free i assume (my dad handled it) so i left. Well damn a week later guess what.
*old new problem*
the damn battery dies again! So we take it back, turns out when they dropped the wrench on my alternator they shorted out the wires leading to the battery. So they fix it for free. Damn 3 times! So I assume my car is ok, I drive around a couple of weeks and guess what?
*old problem*
the car is both, turning off and not starting. So obviously i wasnt gonna take my precious honda back to these clowns. So i took some advice my brother gave me "buy the part and fix it yourself". So we found out(after some hardcore Googling) we found out the problem could be the Fuel Pump Relay Switch, it cost $62.50, so it was worth taking that chance. I bought it, my brother put it in, and guess what?
*everything is fixed*
the car even started driving better. So the moral of the story is, don't trust mechanics, they only want your money. Get some knowledge so you can solve your problems yourself and even if you can, it helps to atleast know what the problem is so they can't jerk you around.
That was a lot. Sicks out.

back to school

Well that time has come. Back to school, back to books, back to grindin, back to the chuck. Everything is gettin off the a good start. I'm just ready to get back to design and workin on my craft. But yeah this is day one of classes, I'm all moved in, room mates are cool and room is cozy. I think that's about it, so i'll end it with a quote:
"...I told'em I finished school and started my own business. They say "oh you graduated?" No I decided I was finished..."

Sir Lucious L. Leftfoot is in the building

Last week I finally got the time to purchase an album I'd been waiting on for a long time....Big Boi's Sir Lucious Leftfoot

Sir Lucious Leftfoot is Big Boi's, one half of the duo Outkast's first solo effort. I was excited as i ripped away the wrapper, anticipating the lyrical blessing that would soon be bestowed upon my ears. First of all I'd like to say that this album had some beautiful CD art, which is the norm for an Outkast album. After listening through the whole album for the first time, I noticed two things: 1.this album was completely void of Andre 3000 2.Big Boi is a lyrical beast and shows no sign of slowing up.

The album is well done, it opens up with the "Feel Me" introduction, which sets the overall message of the album "I am Big Boi and this is who I am". The album definitely explores the different personalities of Big Boi, tracks such as "Daddy Fat Sax" and "General Patton", are a perfect example of what sets Big Boi apart from other artist "I write knockout songs, you spit punchlines for money". Honestly every track on the album is good, but some of the standout tracks are "Hustle Blood" "The Train Pt. 2" "For Your Sorrows" and "Daddy Fat Sax". Sir Lucious also has an all-star line up of featured artists such as, B.o.B, Gucci Mane, T.I., Janelle Monae, and George Clinton. Sir Lucious Leftfoot is a amazing album that lets us know that Big Boi can in fact hold his own. Who knows, maybe if this album does well, others may follow and then the hip hop game will finally get back to real artist who actually put forth an effort to give their fans quality music. Big Boi Sir Luscious Leftfoot is 6.0, even without Andre.
Sicks Out.

Drivin' I Plum crazy...

"She stimulates my mind, body and soul. She speaks to me without saying a word, she moves me with no music and gets my high with no drug. To say she's beautiful is an understatement. To say she's smart is an insult. To say she's cool is only naming one unmatched qualities."
In a world that's so crazy, you need a woman who stick by your side no matter the situation. A woman that not only likes you but understands you. A woman that's not too fast but not too slow. A woman who will not only hold you down but stick up for you. Now tHats the woman for me.
I don't know where we're headed, but I'm glad you helped make this summer a great one.
sicks out.

#teamhonda

There goes my baby...she completes me. White, nice proportions, ride or die, oh how i love to get inside her...of course I'm talking about my 94 Honda Accord (what else?).
She has been the key factor in Summer 6.0(that's my name for the perfect summer) She got me to work and to my girl and everywhere in between, rain, snow, sleet or hail(it only rained this summer)

She may not be perfect, I mean she has her problems, but I've learned to look past all that and just enjoy the ride.
And for all the haters "A Honda is like an iguana, it's beautiful and lasts for a long time, but many people don't know how to take care of them"

shoutout to #teamhonda Escabar and AK 47

The 9-5ers Theme

The 9-5
I guess I found the perfect summer job for me. You see I'm one of those people who sleep during the day and up all night, so it was only fitting that I got a job where I work all night and I'm off all day. The only issue i have with this is that the early morning hours that I work are the times when I'm most creative. I find my self spitting rhymes and poems while i work, wishing I had a pad and pen to scribe'em down. This also leaves no time for early morning art, which was my thing before i started workin' expect tons more art on this blog in the fall when i quit. Trust me.

Dear Summer,

So everybody wanna know, where the fudge i been at(not really).
Up to this point, this has been the best summer of my life. I've held down a pretty decent job, a pretty decent car and a mad decent girl. Those are the keys to the perfect summer. Big shoutouts to tH, shay b00gie, scbeauty, Rudii Black and of course #teamhonda for making this such an ill summer.

"im reading your blogs and what made me laugh was when you wrote about that essay and said it was long and hard (dont be childish) LOL!"

Sad day for 6.0

Our last project in Visual Communications was logo project. But this wasn't any old logo project, we were actually designing logos for real companies. I don't think I need to tell you that, real companies=real money. How this works is, we go to a design website such as 99designs.com, which allows companies to post requests for designs and allows artists to submit designs. The possibility of getting paid got me excited so I jumped head first into it. I first found some logo contests I was interested in, and started. I chose a communications company called GEOskip, a tech. service company named Smarter Service 4 Technology, and a company named Ramco. I personally felt I designed some amazing logos for each of the companies. For most of the logos I chose simple but effective.
My Rant:
The geoskip company rep was an idiot, instead of a good logo, they really wanted a "mascot" included in the logo, which is lame. Instead of choosing greatly designed logos, the opted for wack logos that looked like they were created in Microsoft Word.

I'll be revisited 99designs.com over the summer to make some extra money, hopefully. Wish me luck! sicks out.

Essay, I have slain you.

So I completed my essay. It was long and hard(don't be childish) but it was well worth it in the end. As I mentioned in the last post it was a graphical essay on "How Computers Work".
Here's a brief excerpt from the essay:
"To first understand how a computer works, one must first understand what a computer is, by definition. A computer is, an electronic device created to take in data, and carry out mathematical and logical operations at high speed, and display the results of said operations. Personal computers are the most commonly used computer and it’s the type of computer that most people are familiar with. Personal computers (PC) are very much the same aside from the fact they are used for a variety of purposes and are built around a microprocessor..."

This was my last project for Design Technology. I liked the end product. Sicks out.

Man come on....for real?

Up to this point in the semester I've enjoyed my college life. Work load has been alright, I've only been slightly stressed a few times. I've enjoyed my major classes, such as Visual Comm and Design Tech. I liked every project we've worked on so far, and the end results were amazing. So you can only guess how delighted I was to discover, we have 750-1000 word paper on "How a Computer Works" due on the 1st(this Saturday). It's a "graphical essay" which means it has to include something visually appealing, such as pictures or some sort of typography. So from today until next friday I'll be: studying for finals, writing essays and working on projects. Sounds fun don't it? *checks watch....Well, looks like grind time. SICKS OUT!

Bloo Monster

About a week ago we were assigned the Monster project.
Basically we were suppose to loosely follow a tutorial and create our own cartoon-like monster in illustrator.
My Monster

My monster kind of resembles a cartoon monster I've seen before..but anyway The first thing I created was the eyes which basically just circle gradients, I chose blue because it's my favorite color. The next thing I did was create the shape for the body, which includes the arms. I strayed away from the tutorial a lil bit when I made the mouth. I used a clipping mask for the tongue and teeth but I chose a different method for the teeth.
The last thing I did was the hair or fur. The first thing I did was create the hair the same color as the body and then I came back over it with the highlighted hair. I did small touche up on the hair and added the background and shadow.
I had fun working on this, it was pretty simple an it came out well.

Monster Love

About two weeks ago we were assigned a Basic Shapes illustrator project.
The briefs of the project are:

Now that you have learned many of the basic tools for manipulating shapes in Illustrator, it is time to test your creative skills by working without them.

For this project you will be assigned a BasicShapes.ai file. You can use any of the created shapes in this file to make any kind of image you want.

You can resize the shape, you can change the appearance by using extra strokes and you can rotate them the shapes and of course, change their color. However you may not distort the shapes, bend them, add anchor points. You may not add any special effects (other then a drop shadow or gradient) and you can not shrink the basic shapes so small so that you’re make new shapes with their groups. You can crop the basic shapes by using a mask over the edge of your artwork. You are also free to overlap the shapes as you see fit.

My Project

The first thing I did was make the green(male) monster. Next I made the purple(female) monster. The theme of my scene was 'Monster Love'. So I added flowers and fires and other love type stuff to make the scene seem more romantic. Even though I like the how it turned out, I wish it would've turned out how I envisioned it, I originally wanted the monsters to be giving gifts to each other, basically it was suppose to look more romantic.

All in all I enjoyed working on this project, it really stretched my creativity.

I heart art

I've always had an appreciation for art, in all of its forms. So last saturday I visited Art Central in Summerville, SC for my art appreciation project. First of all let me say, downtown Summerville is an interesting place, quaint, lots of business, good places to eat, and the most important, good prices.
But back to my visit.
As I entered the small art gallery the lady behind the counter greeted me"oh are you here to do your art appre project?" WHOA?! Is this the matrix? "Students have been coming in all day looking for artwork for their projects" oh ok. So I looked around at all the different artist; up to this point it was what I expected: still life, landscapes, animals, portraits..until I came across Yvonne Rousseau (related to Henri Rousseau? maybe) Her work was so versatile: landscapes, abstracts, mixed media. Her work was such a departure from the work of the rest of the artist in the gallery. Who knew that such talent could be found in such a small town? Rousseau is now one of my favorite artists; along side Luke Chueh and Craola. Pics of her work after the drop

Bridge Logo

Here's another logo I forgot to post, even though I mentioned it in the last post. But anyway, Prof told us the Bridge Program was looking for a new logo, because the old logo was basically a picture of a bridge. So I used my genius, talent and creativity to create the masterpiece you see above. I look on the internet to spark some inspiration, I used a couple of designs, too bad i don't have pics, but there were basically simple traces of the cooper river bridge, nothing special or creative. We were asked to use the cooper river bridge in the logo, but i decided to go against the grain and use a sort of abstract cooper river bridge. I must admit, my version looks a lot better as a logo. It's pretty straightforward, the symbolism is clear, and there's even text to aid you. If you readin' critique meeeee! Sicks out

April fool

The end of the semester is drawing near. Only a few weeks left and I have 9 blogs left...well 8 after this one. So i'll be posting more often, that is if i want to pass art 218(I'm serious this time). Along with posting more often, I'll be posting about more than just art, not solely to have more blog post but because i will be maintaining SicksPointOh blog from here on out. I'll be posting about my day to day happening and what goes on inside my mind. LOL it's kind of funny though, because with Facebook, Twitter, Blogspot, Xbox Live and Playstation Network, it seems as though my whole life is on the internet! Don't worry I don't really get to personal with my posts ;). But be sure to follow, because there a big things ahead, trust. Sicks out!

Low Go pt. 5 million

I can honestly say I've worked on logos more than anything up to this point. I've done logos for SACS, The Bridge Program, and Mr. Sparkle. So I wasn't surprised when we were assigned another logo design project. What could possibly be different this time? We get the chance to redesign popular logos such as Google, Yahoo, Adidas etc etc.
Logo project #3:Yahoo & GreenPeace
I chose to redesign the logos for Yahoo! and Greenpeace. I chose these because the original logos were quite boring and needed to be redesigned. For Yahoo! I chose to go for simplicity. I put the Y! in a talk bubble as if it were being said or yelled. For the greenpeace log I chose to go for the simple look also. The original greenpeace logo was stupid(#kanyeshrug) to be honest. So I chose to use what else? A green peace sign.
I'm not a professional by far, but i truly feel my redesigns are better than the originals.
more to come!

Saturday, March 27, 2010

So now I'm basically caught up on my blogs I'm just going to give you my opinion of the course/program up to this point.

What brought me to Charleston Southern University in the first place was the new graphic design program. I wanted the opportunity to join and grow with the program, I know it was a risk but so far, it seems well worth it.
The first semester was quite interesting and held a few suprises. I've always been interested in the software end of graphic design, as it was what got me interested in graphic design in the first place. You can bet I was kind of sad to find out we would'nt be starting out working with software. The first two classes we took in the graphic design program was Beginning Design and Drawing 1. Drawing 1 was a pretty self explanatory class, we draw and learn different techniques. This class didn't have much room for creativity but it was enjoyable, we were also required to keep a sketchbook, which was basically a drawing journal. Beginning Design was a hands on class that truly put our creativity to use and was a very enjoyable class.
What truly made my first semester a good one was the people i meet and the good times we had.
Though I like all of my fellow majormates, some of the people who really stand out are Melanie Tibayan, Morgan Simpson, Nikki Newsome and Mike Flowers. I'd just like to thank these people for being there and staying there.
The second semester is a work in progress, but i can definitely say I like it so far. I've finally got to software end of graphic design. I've always wanted to learn Illustrator, so i'm glad I get the chance to work with it. So far I've worked on projects that outline the basics of Illustrator and some logo projects.
I'm looking forward to the next three years in the CSU graphic design program. Thanks to everybody and a special thanks to Prof Speyers for keeping it interesting.

Low-Go part. 2!

So our second Logo project was to make a logo for either South Carolina Corrections Associations(SCCA), Southern Associations of Colleges and Schools(SACS), or for a pediatric. I chose to do the logo for SACS
My second logo project:
SACS
When you think of SACS, what do you think of? You think about that....When I think about SACS I think knowledge, knowledge the tree that will bear you many fruits in the future, and SACS plants that seed, for my logo I wanted show that idea. I want a head with a tree growing out of it to represent knowledge. I agree with my professor one this one, my logo is mad creepy. Maybe if I took a little more time and went through a few more ideas, I would've got it. What use could this logo possibly have? I guess a cult or an organization that wants to take over the world could use it, but for now....this logo is trash. I chalk this up as a failure, but a learning experience...
Peace!

Guess I lied part 2

...well, here's the next post(took a while didn't it?) but this post is just a continuation of the last one, just catching you up on my past projects.
History of Computers Presentation-Ram:
This goal of this project was to explore the history of computers. Now the history of computers is very broad and would be kind of hard to present at one time, so each student in my class was to choose one topic dealing with the history of computers, such as vacuum tubes, microprocessors, operating systems, monitors etc etc. We were then to research the topic and compose a 10-12 minute-PowerPoint presentation on our topic and how it relates to the history of computers. My topic of choice was RAM, random access memory. While working on this project I learned a lot about both computer memory and computers. I enjoyed working on this project and presenting it,though it was much too long, it's all good though. On to the next one!

Guess I lied...

I know I said I'll be posting everyday but once again I've been caught up working on my Math Project, finishing my English Paper, Studying for Art Appreciation, but now I'm good, now its back to business.

First of all I neglected to post about a few projects

The tutorial Project:

The project was just what it is: A tutorial. I downloaded the base file from Blackboard and I followed

an Illustrator tutorial, which was outlined in the textbook.

The basics of the tutorial were color swatches and creating shapes and masks. It was pretty much straightforward.

The Next Project I neglected to post....will be in the next post

Playing Catch-up

Haven't posted in a while, and it's affecting my grade. I've been up to a lot, studying, tests, homework, family-time, lady time, with little time for leisure. As the semester draws nearer and nearer to a close, I'm really hitting the books and focusing....too bad I kinda forgot about my blog. As far as Art goes, I've done plenty of work since the last time I posted. Logos, presentations, and some of my own work on the side. I even got a new laptop since my last post; an HP G61-429wm 15.6" Laptop PC with AMD Sempron Processor & Windows 7 Home Premium. It's pretty good, it has yet to dissapoint me. I'll update you on all my work in the next posts.
P.S. I'll be posting everyday from now on.

Low Go!

So here it is my final decsion on my Mr. Sparkle Logo. As you can see I submitted two logos.

Logo #1
(The top logo)
I wanted to go for a simple look; something that says clean and environmentally clean. The water drop shape was suppose to symbolize water; clean. The Ribbon surrounding the water drop is symbolizing the transition from clean to environmentally safe.
Logo #2
(The bottom logo)
For the second logo I wanted to go for an even simpler look. I chose to do a "sectional logo." For each section(panel) of the logo I used a different color. I tried to use ocean colors, to continue the water theme. If you look closely you'll see the water drop in the top left section. I placed the name in the logo left; separate but included.

Meestuh aSpacool

Lately I've been real busy; handling some things back home, school projects, studying, gets some things in order and catching up on some much needed sleep. I forgot to update last week so....
We finished a tutorial project, it was pretty simple, not important enough to post about. After the tutorial project we started logo projects. Now what makes these logo projects unique is that we will be actually creating logos for real life businesses and organizations. The client then picks their favorite logo from the class and uses it for their company. The first company we were asked to create a logo for was "Mr. Sparkle Glass Restoration." (I can't help but think of Homer Simpson, every time I hear "Mr.Sparkle") Final comments and logo pics in the next post.

stick a fork in it....

I finally finished my color replication project. The goal of the project was to recreate a real life object as a vector in Adodbe Illustrator. I think it turned out well, though I feel I could've done a little better on the reflections, rims and the windows. This project taught me a lot about gradients and coloring. I did my best on the rims, I had a different idea in the beginning, but this is what I chose to stick with. Now that I look at it, I notice that I forgot to add some details to the car, such as the reflector near the door and the emblem next to the wheel. I think it turned out well though. Can I get some critique please?

keep on pushin

Pushin' on. I'm making progress, it's turning out pretty good. It'll look even better once I add the small details. Workin' on this project makes me think of the Curtis Mayfield song "Keep On Pushin." This is a song that has motivated me in the past to complete schoolwork(corny?). Either way "Keep On Pushin" is a song that keeps me going to completion.
Joys and concerns
So far nothings given me too much trouble...that being said I believe the rims will be a small challenge but I'm sure it won't be too much of a problem

Sick on another level[sicks point oh]

Past few days have been the illest days of my life. I missed classes, missed meals, missed work and basically missed out everything else that's important. Luckily I finished my less is more project and I've begun to make some progress on my new project "Color replication"

Completion

I finally finished my 'less is more' project. It took a lot of time and hard work but its finished. I discovered a lot of things about adobe illustrator while working on this project such as the shape tool and the path tool. I really liked how it turned out, sometimes I look at it and think to myself "did I really do this?", long story short, I think it's amazing. I have to admit the more and more I look at it, I notice that the speaker look kinda rough....but all in all it was an enjoyable project, but I'm happy to finally be finished.

The Process of Progress

I've made a lot of progress since my last post, I'm close to completion. This project is kind kickin' my butt. Despite the fact I'm working hard on it, I'm making very little progress, simply because when I add details, I zoom out and look at it and it never seems as though I've added enough. We'll see how this goes. I think the end product will look good. I would've been done a long time ago but I can't seem to get into the lab after class. I'm ready to get this over with and on to the next one.

Vicious Cirlces...

My Art 216 progress

So now I finally began my "Less is More" visual communication project. I won't go into a lot of detail on the goal of the project but it involves using three images of on object at different levels of zoom and drawing the details with the pen tool in adobe illustrator.
The project started off easy but I must say, making circles with the pen tool is the task from hell. I can hardly explain my frustration trying to draw something as simple as a circle, in retrospect I should've chosen a subject with less circles. While I was trying desperately to make a circle(a real circle, not a jagged rock outline) I couldn't help but think there must be a better way to do this, sadly as there is not,as far as I know...but all-in-all I'm enjoying the project and will keep on keeping on despite the demon circles. sicks out.

***EDIT***
ok I feel stupid now, the easiest way to make circles in illustrator is by using the elliptical tool. It was easier to find in photoshop, but yeah....the elliptical tool

Since middle school my passion and taste for fine arts, design and films has substantially improved. My love for arts is one of the greatest reasons I decided to major in design.
Le Numéro Sicks, a movie cover mock-up. Something I did just for fun. It's nicely done if I could say so myself. I got the photo of the woman behind me from deviant art. As for the actual dvd case I worked from .psd template I found.

welcome to blogspot6.0
.desiqn.photos.music.mylife.

This blog's suppose is to document my visual communications projects...pssh yeah, that's what it's "supposed" to document. I plan to take this blog so much further than just design. I want this blog to extend into my personal life and thoughts. This is my first try at blogging, I hope i enjoy it. I really doubt that anyone will read this, but who knows? One day I might be famous; one day I might be a loser. No matter what happens: I'll be. I'm 6.0 & Life is 6.0.
Welcome to my blog
